The Story
EmDash is a system for building and managing websites. Its creators describe it as the spiritual successor to the well-known WordPress platform. WordPress, by comparison, has become something of a dinosaur. It is the result of decades of additions and extensions layered onto an aging architecture, putting pressure on both security and efficiency.
EmDash started with a clean slate, allowing it to take full advantage of modern technologies and concepts. One of these is the integration of AI tools into the development process.
I enjoy using AI tools, and one of them is Hermes Agent, which functions as a fully capable digital assistant. I use Hermes extensively in the development and maintenance of a website about disease-resistant grape varieties and wine (piwiwines.org).
As an experiment, I instructed Hermes to build a website using EmDash and populate it with posts describing every step it took to create the site. This website, along with the posts in the Hermes and EmDash category, is the result.
Hermes started work on June 1, 2026, at 11:55 a.m. and had everything finished by the time lunch was over.
